Laguna Seca 2006

Wow, where do I start. This was our main mission--to watch some races. We have not been back since 2003 since most of us have moved/relocated. This year was the 2nd year of MotoGP racing in the US--something that we have never been to. That was the coolest thing, was that even though Mike had never been to anything like this before--Tino, George, Allan and I were also seeing something new--and boy was it. After hearing all the horror stories of last year with the traffic, hotels, etc... We made plans early--securing lodging at Presidio of Monterey--a military base. We also planned it out, so that we were up there early enough to do some relaxing and go into the weekend ready to go. We also upped the ante and paid for the Laguna Club (food and beverages covered). At the end, I'm satisfied with how everything turned out. We had a blast, had food to eat and pretty much had drinks to drink... Yeah, there were some issues with having to fend for ourselves on Friday and the $4 bottles of water. Also, dealing with the Laguna Club closing early on Sunday when races were still going on and then the entire place running out of bottled water--but they did come in with some more later. The biggest thing was the heat. It has never been this hot in my previous trips to Laguna. And I thought I was escaping the Arizona heat! It was actually hotter at the track--with humidity. What was crazy was the racers had to be really burning up--reported track temperatures had it at 140-150ish!!!

As far as the events, the races the atmosphere...it was awesome! We had fun this year with Tino and his "Let's Go" chant at 6am!! By the end of the trip we changed his chant to "Let's go....so I can fall asleep at the track" :) Good times, Good times... The races were awesome! Even with Rossi not finishing--that's a bad man... MotoGP bikes are loud and crazy fast. The track was disappointing with the changes they made.
